This service area, led by the Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Diana Burton, comprises the Academic Enhancement Unit, the Research Support Office, the Development Funding Office, the Professors and Readers Conferment function and the LJMU Scholarship Board. The Liverpool Comino Centre also operates from the PVC office.

- Ensuring that all programmes operate within internal quality assurance and academic framework regulations and are consistent with relevant regulatory frameworks such as the QAA’s codes of practice;
- Supporting institutional research development, faculty research endeavour and postgraduate research programmes;
- Leading and monitoring the conferment of professorships and readerships;
- Leading the regular review of professorial pay enhancement;
- Interfacing with city and regional policy development groups focused on the knowledge economy;
- Supporting faculties and departments to secure income from a range of European, international and national sources for a variety of projects developed within the university.
The PVC and colleagues within the departments work closely with the Liverpool Students’ Union to ensure that common goals are met through a productive partnership mode of working.
