Dr. Claire Hennessy
Claire is a senior lecturer in Education Studies and she teaches on a number of modules across the Education Studies degree programmes.
Claire has a particular interest in community education and prior to her current post Claire worked on a community education project funded by the European Social Fund. This role involved developing and delivering workshops to women in the community to inform them of their rights in employment and education and to empower them to overcome gender and age stereotypes.
She gained her PhD in 2007 for her research examining user and staff perceptions of resettlement services for homeless people on Merseyside. Her research was sponsored by the Liverpool Comino Centre and Claire remains a member of the centre’s steering committee.
Together with Comino, Claire has carried out a number of evaluation reports of different community projects. In early 2008 Claire carried out an evaluation of an innovative education project which worked with homeless young people to involve them in dance and the arts.
Claire has been teaching at Liverpool John Moores University for five years. Before joining the Education Studies team in 2008 she worked as a sessional lecturer in the centre of Tourism, Consumer and Food Studies delivering lectures on a range of modules.
