Research and Enterprise

Research in ECL is structured and directed by the Faculty Research Directorate.

Research

There is a vibrant research culture stimulated by 8 professors and 3 readers across the faculty, with niche groups of research in Education, Sport, Dance and Outdoor Education (SDO); Tourism, Event/ leisure and Food/nutrition (TEF). Twelve staff, including researchers from the Liverpool Business School and School of Psychology, were submitted to the RAE 2008 for Education (UoA45) in relation to four distinct themes: ‘Educational workforce development’, ‘Learning and cognitive development’, ‘Citizenship Education’ and 'Technology Enhanced Learning'.

The research environment is further supported by 8 research assistants and 50 research students who make significant contributions to research seminars and conferences both within the faculty and at external conferences. Research assistants and students are funded through projects mainly undertaken with key partners such as research councils (ESRC), schools, education authorities, food and leisure industry, community groups in sport and dance and other universities. Many projects are of national and international significance and are presented at conferences both at home and abroad. Research groups are also culturally diverse and reflect the cosmopolitan nature of projects undertaken in the faculty. Research in the faculty is central to its strategic aims of providing quality education, engaging in enterprise activities and contributing to the regeneration of the region.

The faculty welcomes interested parties from the UK and abroad to engage in research. Research and evaluation groups and centres are involved in cutting edge investigations that are congruent with the faculty’s strategic aims. This approach aims to strengthen a research and scholarly active culture and to promote the value of research with its partners and constituents. Research interests of academic staff who would welcome enquiries related to MPhil/PhD, MRes and Ed.D can be found under research staff names.
