The Liverpool LOgistics, Offshore and Marine (LOOM) Centre has been formulated with the approval from Professor Michael Brown, the VC of Liverpool John Moores University. The LOOM Centre supersedes and replaces the Marine, Offshore and Transport Resaerch Group.(Mach, 2008)

Professor Jin Wang has received a grant of £3,752 from the EPSRC. It will support him to work with Professor Bob Bea of Berkeley, University of California for one month. (December, 2002).

Charles Roberts has been awarded two research grants, one for GBP3000 the other  for GBP500,  for his project "The effect of ownership change on the British bus industry since 1985".

Mahmoud Saajedi has been awarded a travelling grant (£700) from the Royal Academy of Engineering to present his paper " Strength reduction factor for tubular steel joints under combined loading conditions" in the 21 International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, Oslo, Norway, 23-28 June, 2002.

Best paper award: Paper produced by Mokashi A. J., Wang J., Verma A. K., Srividya A., has received the best paper award by the International Conference on Quality, Reliability and Control, Le Royal Meridien, Mumbai, India, Dec. 26-28, 2001 (organised by the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers and Indian Institute of Technology). The paper is entitled “viability of RCM in the maritime context” (Jan, 2002).
