Steve Bonsall is a Part time Lecturer in the School of Engineering, Technology and Maritime Operations at LJMU. Before joining LJMU in 1990 he was in port management in Ellesmere Port, Felixstowe and Southampton. He has also been an Assistant Harbour Master and served 10 years as a Merchant Navy officer completing this service as Chief Officer. Through this experience he has been involved in the maritime and marine industry for more than 20 years. In recent years, he has been active in supervising PhD students in marine and maritime affairs particularly risk assessment. He has authored or co-authored more than 20 refereed papers in the areas of marine design and operations. Dr Bonsall’s industrial experiences will ensure that the development of the proposed modelling tools strikes a balance between applicability and academic novelty.
