The appointment reflects a longstanding, supportive relationship between the University and the Royal Liverpool Children's NHS Trust (Alder Hey), where Professor Nunn (pictured opposite) is currently Clinical Director of Pharmacy.
Professor Jim Ford, Director of LJMU's School of Pharmacy and Chemistry, says: "We are delighted that Professor Nunn has accepted this honorary position within the School. Not only will this further cement links between LJMU and Alder Hey but he will be able to give our undergraduate and postgraduate students invaluable insights on clinical best practice within a hospital setting. Much of our research is focussed on improving the safety and effectiveness of medicines for children. I have no doubt that Professor Nunn's experience in this field will help us take our research and our teaching programmes in new and exciting directions."
Professor Nunn is also Associate Director of the Medicines for Children Research Network at the University of Liverpool and a commissioner to the UK Commission on Human Medicines.
Commenting on his new role, Professor Nunn says: "I am delighted to accept this position which marks the close relationship existing between Alder Hey and LJMU and our developing research and teaching agenda to provide better medicines for children."
LJMU's School of Pharmacy and Chemistry has been delivering high quality practice-based education for over 100 years. Key areas of research include: Computer Assisted Teaching and Assessment in Pharmacy and Chemistry, Drug Delivery and Materials Science, Environment and Toxicology, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Design and Discovery and Pharmacy Practice.
The Royal Liverpool Children's NHS Trust is rated 'excellent' by the Healthcare Commission (the organisation which inspects NHS trusts to make sure they are working to high standards) for five consecutive years and is in the top 4% of Trusts nationally. It has an annual turnover of £130million per annum and spends £356K per day. The Trust, headed by its flagship hospital Alder Hey, is one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospital providing care for over 200,000 children each year. In addition to the Alder Hey hospital site, the Trust provides 800 peripheral clinic sessions per year, more than 40 Community outreach sites and programmes and is staffed by 2,800 employees.
