Fake username / password emails

Posted: 20 Feb 2009

The University's email system has been receiving fake 'support' emails. The emails ask the user to reply to the message by entering their password. Please do not do this. This could result in damage to University computers, personal computers, laptops and PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). We would never ask you to disclose your password, if you have replied to the email, please change your password asap. Users are advised not to open, read or click links in any email they receive from unknown or untrusted sources. Please delete them. If you are at all unsure about an email it is best not to open it or to preview its contents. Computing and Information Services are working to filter these messages to protect computers on the network.
