Atish Ladwa, a 3rd year placement student on the Business and Information Systems

Over the 12 month placement, not only did I develop my personal skills, professional knowledge and presenting ideas persuasively, but I also realised that I was making a genuine contribution to the team: that’s what really made the experience rewarding.
How much were LJMU involved before and during the placement?
The staff were always happy to help out. We have some of the best staff in LJMU for helping students find the right placement. During the placement year, I was assigned a placement visit tutor, who came and visited me twice during my placement and gave me ideas on how to get more out of my placement and helped me with my next year’s dissertation kick-off.
Is a placement a good idea for students?
Definitely. You learn so much during the year and you get a chance to apply academic knowledge in real-time projects and build up your personal and development skills. A placement year is also a gateway for a career path in the same company or a build up on your CV for standing out compared to other students without industrial experience. My advice to you – definitely apply if you enjoy working in fast-moving industries and challenging environments.
