‘Beyond the Binge’ - a presentation by Exchange Officers from the USA: partnerships developed in tackling drink-related crime in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
US Police officers, Kirk Flatten and Andrew “Drew” Gavrilos are members of a problem solving team based in the city of La Crosse. Over a number of years a number of college students have suffered death by drowning in the Mississippi river.
Members of the city population thought that this may have been the work of a serial killer. However a deeply entrenched drinking culture bore responsibility for the deaths. How they tackled this in partnership with the local authorities and residents is the subject matter of their presentation.
The event will take place at 1pm on Thursday 8 October in Room G17, John Foster Building, Mount Pleasant.
