Students win council placements

15 October 2009

Earlier this year Liverpool City Council proffered 12 undergraduate year placements and uniquely offered them to LJMU students only.

This is the first time that the council has centrally funded for this type of scheme, working in collaboration with one university specifically, with LJMU’s Graduate Development Centre.

The Graduate Development Centre is delighted to introduce the LJMU students who outperformed other candidates to be awarded a coveted placement opportunity with Liverpool City Council.

The placements are for 12 months and vary from Exhibitions Programme Assistant to Highways Asset Management. The successful students were from a range of disciplines and schools including Engineering, the Business School, Built Environment, Computing and Mathematical Science and Environmental Science.

The students started their new roles on Monday 7th September 2009, and have been employed across a variety of Liverpool City Council departments and project teams. During their placement they will have the opportunity to use and further their skills gained at university and it affords them the valuable experience of working in a local authority environment. Working within their teams, they will experience how various aspects of council activity are undertaken and managed and assume a role of responsibility to carry out project related activities.
