Tom Reilly building nears completion

08 December 2009

The new Tom Reilly science building is in the final stages of completion, ready for the relocation of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences and the School of Natural Sciences and Psychology in January.

Around 50% of the new building's floorspace will be given over to specialist teaching and research laboratories, with the remainder being used for teaching, IT suites and staff accommodation.

The lower and upper ground floors house specialist sport and exercise science labs, such as the sleep lab (or temporal isolation laboratory), as well as an 80 metre running track.

The general staff and teaching accommodation is designed to be very flexible. As far as possible, layouts have been 'future proofed' to ensure that they can be easily adapted for different uses, with ancillary uses and services clustered together in designated zones.
