VC praises staff efforts
14 January 2010
The Vice-Chancellor has commended staff for their hard work in ensuring the safety of staff and students at LJMU in the adverse weather conditions.
The Vice-Chancellor has extended his thanks and praise to staff for their excellent work in ensuring that the LJMU campuses have been safe for students and staff during the adverse weather conditions. He said: "I would like to take this opportunity to express my personal appreciation for the commitment of staff in Property Services and other areas of the University who have gone beyond expectations in providing service to others in difficult circumstances."
Staff in Property Services worked throughout the weekend to ensure that all buildings could open as normal for students and staff, clearing campus areas and walkways to ensure safe pedestrian access into and around the campuses. They were out again early in the week to clear the carparks, ensuring that disabled spaces were available for use.
Allan Bickerstaffe, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Infrastructure) added "I have been very impressed with the ways in which staff have carried out their duties well in excess of the norms that would be expected. Examples include staff who walked several miles to work, those who arrived exceptionally early and those who have gone out of their way to help and support colleagues."
