Can social enterprise address social exclusion: evidence from an inner city community?

Dr Simon Teasdale from the Third Sector Research Centre (TSRC) will be visiting Liverpool Business School on Wednesday 3 February to talk about the work of the Centre and also his specific research, titled: “Can social enterprise address social exclusion: evidence from an inner city community?”.

The event will take place between 5.30-6.30pm in room G.01 of the John Foster Building, Mount Pleasant Campus.

Simon is research fellow at the recently established TSRC, based at the University of Birmingham. Within TSRC, Simon works closely with Fergus Lyon at Middlesex University on the social enterprise work stream. This seeks to understand the role social enterprise plays within the third sector. The work stream cuts across all other research programmes, aiming to identify the particular characteristics and contribution of social enterprise within the third sector.

Simon has been involved in social enterprise since the early 1990s when he worked at The Big Issue in the North. In 2005, he completed his PhD thesis: “The potential for the social economy to combat exclusion”. He is currently writing about homelessness and social enterprise, the role of impression management in resource acquisition, the gendered nature of social entrepreneurship, and an analysis of statistical data on social enterprise.
