Young person mentors wanted
08 March 2011
Would you like to support a young person and become a mentor?
Are you interested in becoming a Mentor for a 14 – 16 year old? Mentoring offers young people the opportunity to develop their skills and qualities in a way that will prove beneficial to them. In a non-educational setting, mentoring is a powerful tool for raising the self-esteem of young people.
As a Mentor you will:
- listen to your mentee and discuss anything that is worrying them
- encourage them to achieve their objectives
- talk about relevant experiences/problems they have overcome (if appropriate)
- encourage mentees to talk and think about their ambitions and hopes for the future and plan the steps needed to get there
You will receive all the training you need in order to feel confident and become an effective Mentor. You will meet other Mentors and the opportunity will give you an abundance of knowledge, skills, experience which will benefit you immensely as a graduate and may directly help those looking to do a PGCE or work with young people in the future.
You must be able to attend the following training session:
- Thursday 4th February, 9.30am – 2pm, Large Committee Room, Liverpool Students Union, The Hague Building
A free lunch will be provided
If you would like to become a mentor then get in touch, places are limited! To reserve a place email: volunteering@ljmu.ac.uk or call Lucy McGrath on: 0151 231 3850.
