Northern Ireland Applicant Day

11 February 2010

The Student Recruitment and Widening Access (SRW&A) team held another very successful Applicant Day in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, last week.

The SR&WA team and Faculty representatives met with over 800 visitors at the Glenavon House Hotel in Cookstown, located in the geographical centre of the country.

This event promoted LJMU and our courses and was aimed at encouraging students who have already applied to choose the University as their first choice destination.

Students and parents received information on studying in Liverpool, about WoW, accommodation and finance as well as specific information from Faculty representatives about the courses for which they had applied.  In addition, a current student from Northern Ireland gave a talk on her experiences of moving to Liverpool to study.

Feedback from visitors to the event has been very positive with one applicant remarking that: "The event was very informative and it has motivated me to work hard and ensure I achieve the grades I need for LJMU."

Commenting on the event, Peter Dolan from the SR&WA team said: "LJMU has a long history of recruiting students from Northern Ireland, and we are the most popular HE destination for students who leave to study in England, Scotland or Wales."

"We are keen to provide a taste of LJMU which will assist young people in making an informed choice when deciding on their future.  This event gives prospective students and their families the opportunity to meet our staff and ask questions about studying here. The SR&WA team also have the chance to meet students from one of our most valuable markets and raise the profile of the University."
