From LJMU to Harvard Medical School
12 February 2010
LJMU postgraduate Chris Morris successfully defended his PhD thesis at viva voce last week, and is now about to start a new life as a post-doctoral researcher in the Division of Sleep Medicine at the Harvard Medical School, Boston.
Chris’s PhD thesis was entitled 'Relationships between body mass index, appetite regulation and physical activity during shift-work and night-work'.
Professor Greg Atkinson was the Director of Studies for his PhD programme, which was funded by the National Prevention Research Initiative of the Medical Research Council.
Chris registered for a PhD outright and completed his programme in the unusually rapid timescale of two and a half years, having previously obtained a Masters degree (with distinction) from the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences. Chris is the first student to defend his PhD thesis in the brand new Tom Reilly Building.
Chris will manage a number of experiments in Boston, the largest of which is supported by a grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) on cardiovascular effects of night-work.
