Brainwave competition winners
22 February 2010
The winner of this year's Brainwave business idea competition was recently announced at an event in the Graduate Development Centre.
The Brainwave competition has been run by the Student Enterprise team in LJMU's Business Development Centre since 2005 and is always a welcome event in the team's calendar. The aim of the competition is to identify innovative and entrepreneurial ideas from amongst the LJMU student community.
This year's competition attracted over thirty entries and the quality of the entries received was felt by judges to be the best yet. The judges were also impressed with the variety and creativity of ideas submitted by students from across the faculties.
The winner of this year's £250 prize was Richard Moxon, a final year student of Outdoor with Environmental Education. Richard's idea is for a business that converts vehicles into camper vans.
Additional funding was provided this year thanks to LJMU's Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). This funded a second and two joint-third prizes to reward the efforts of participants and to help them develop their ideas further.
Second place was awarded to Tim Burrow, currently studying for a MSc in Environmental Planning for a social enterprise idea which helps students to recycle unwanted household items.
Joint third was awarded to Natasha Qureshi, a student of Tourism and Leisure Management, for an innovative educational resource and to Nicholas Barnett for a local history social enterprise project.
Students attending the event had the opportunity to meet members of the Student Enterprise team to discuss ways in which the team can help them develop their ideas further.
Students wishing to discuss any new business ideas should contact the Student Enterprise team on 0151 231 8060 or email startup@ljmu.ac.uk
