Call for posters - IHR Conference

15 March 2010

LJMU’s Institute for Health Research (IHR) is now inviting submissions of abstracts for poster presentations at its annual conference on Friday 21 May 2010 at Tate Liverpool, Albert Dock, Liverpool.

The poster competition this year is open to Postgraduate Research Students (MRes, MPhil, PhD, Professional Doctorate) registered at LJMU or affiliated to the University through their supervisory team.  Individuals who have/will have very recently completed their research degree programme at LJMU (between February and May 2010) are also eligible to enter.

Not only is this conference an opportunity to disseminate information about your specialist area of research to your peers, it brings together academics and others with relevant interests  right across the spectrum of health and health-related research.  Networking in this way and by attending the workshops and presentations that are also part of the conference programme, can help shape future interdisciplinary research collaborations and projects, which may be beneficial to your own career development.

All posters exhibited will be included in the competition.  Five cash prizes will be awarded, three (first place, runner-up, third place) are based on judging criteria that include novelty, significance and the rigour of the research presented.  Additionally, posters reflecting collaborative research i.e. projects developed in conjunction with colleagues from organisations/groups external to the University, such as health services/NHS, pharmaceutical industry, 3rd sector/community groups, and/or posters deemed to reflect research with considerable impact potential (e.g. in relation to behaviour change, or new product development, or diagnostics) will be considered for a further two prizes.  It is possible for a single poster to win more than one prize Abstracts should detail research aligned to one or more of the four IHR networks:

  • Medical sciences and therapeutics
  • Health promotion, policy and inequalities
  • Quality of life, living with disability or illness
  • Organisation and delivery of services

Text-based abstracts must be entered using the template (click here) and must not exceed 300 words. Entries must outline the rationale for the research, the methods used, and detail the major findings, conclusions and potential impact of the research.  Posters/abstracts that have previously been accepted for presentation within the last 12 months may be submitted/re-produced.

Please send your abstract(s) by email as a MS Word attachment to Paula Brennan (p.brennan@ljmu.ac.uk) by 26 March 2010.  Successful applicants will be notified by 16 April 2010.  Entrants will be required to produce a full colour poster.  Queries about posters or other aspects of the conference can also be addressed to Paula by email (as above) or by phone on 0151 231 4495.
