GDC presents event with Liverpool Vision

The aim of the event was to build links between the programme team and employers, a major element of the WoW Programme. Students on the MSc course have to complete a four month placement. The employers who attended had the opportunity to meet the academic team and this year’s cohort of students, to find out more about the benefits of taking on LJMU students.

Dr Tricia Burke and Dr Glyn Hobbs opened the event and spoke about the programme and the placement opportunities.

Jon Hobson, Laboratory Manager from MAST, who has a long standing relationship with the programme team, spoke about the benefits of this relationship, saying: 

"Hosting students from Liverpool John Moores University while they undertake the project element of their MSc Industrial Biotechnology has provided us with opportunities to explore new and innovative areas of product development, complementing our existing R&D activity. The success of these projects and the active supervisor support provided has led to further collaborations and publication of scientific paper. We have been able to offer permanent employment to a number of these students, all of whom have demonstrated a high degree of knowledge and practical experience".

The event was a great success -  the students had the opportunity to meet people from local industries, and allowed them to practise their networking skills. It has also led to new relationships being built between LJMU and local Biotechnology employers.

The programme team have reported that, as a result of the event, several new placement opportunities have been identified and the recruitment process for these placements has already started. “From our point of view the event was a great success and one that we would like to see repeated each year”.
