31 August 2011
The School of Engineering Technology and Maritime Operations, in partnership with Portia Management Services ran its second summer School for King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. A group of students from the university spent a 4 week programme in the Port of Liverpool learning various aspects of port operations guided by staff from Portia Management Services Ltd.
Portia, part of the Peel Ports Group, provides investment, management and technical support to port operators throughout the world, and has operations in Saudi Arabia. The company’s partnership with the School’s Liverpool Maritime Academy has supported a number of commercial activities, and assisted in the development of the Bachelor and Masters degree programmes in Port Management.
Pauline Floode and Dr Steven Bonsall the university academics with expertise in Port Management led the group. Pauline commented that ‘The port of Liverpool is the UKs most diverse port in the range of cargos that it handles. This gives the students the opportunity to gain a lot of experience, which will benefit their studies, in a relatively short time’
