Making the Invisible, Visible

23 September 2011

Open Labs launches the first of its briefings on emerging technologies, trends and markets that will inform the next generation of digital products and services.

This briefing, titled ‘Making the Invisible, Visible’, illustrates the proliferation of connected devices (mobiles, tablets, sensors) and the rapid increase in the usage of social networking platforms and the ways in which such technologies and behaviours are increasingly embedded in our lives. It goes on to show the variety of ways in which people seek out information on their own health and wellbeing and the current types of products and services that have developed in response to this.

Open Labs’ Jason Taylor said “there’s a large and growing population who are interested in participating in the management of their own health and wellbeing. There’s an opportunity for local creative technology companies to develop digital products and services that will serve a global market and help address a pressing social issue.”

“Given that 99% of all European businesses are small- or medium-sized (SMEs) providing 2 out of 3 jobs in the private sector, Open Labs key objective is to forge successful collaborations and partnerships with local companies, university staff and students.”
