US Ambassador Robert Tuttle paid tribute to a Ian Ralston, a former LJMU academic who devoted 30 years of his life to furthering understanding of the United States to students.
Ian Ralston, formerly based in the American Studies Resources Centre at the Aldham Robarts LRC, travelled to London with his wife Rita to receive a State Department Tribute of Appreciation from Ambassador Tuttle.
Ambassador Tuttle said: "Ian Ralston has contributed a huge amount towards an informed and lively debate about America in the UK, through his work. Through his teaching over 30 years and through 21 years as Director of the ASRC in Liverpool, he has spread enthusiasm and knowledge about the US to countless scholars."
"I would like to thank him for his dedicated contribution to American Studies, and wish him a long and happy retirement."
The Centre was formed 21 years ago with support from the US Embassy in London, and the British Association for American Studies.
