A tour of the new Redmonds Building

The Redmonds Building, which is due for completion in a few weeks time ready for the start of September, has been developed on the footprint of the old Clarence Street building on the corner of Brownlow Hill.

Work began just two years ago on the site with the demolition of the old building to make way for construction to begin, the new building is twice the size of the original building.

The architects for the building are ADP Manchester and the lead archictect is Helen Dore who is graduate from LJMU, this is her first major project. 

The builders are Wates Construction who worked with the University on the Art and Design Academy; we have worked with Wates to ensure that the local community and importantly, the primary school at the back of the building, have not been greatly inconvenienced by the building work. 

In the closing stages of construction a playground is now being rebuilt for the School on the land behind that they leased to the University for the construction site.

The Redmonds Building is named after Phil and Alexis Redmond who have both been actively involved and hugely supportive of the University over the years. The Building will be a new home for the students and staff from the Screen School, the Business School and the School of Law.

Throughout the construction of the building staff and students have been able to see what the building will look like with a series of fly-through images and a webcam has been tracking progress as the building has taken shape.

Now nearing completion, Colin Davies, Director of Infrastructure Services has recorded a webcast to show the inside of the building and a gallery of photographs are now available to view.
