A Liverpool summer for international students
01 June 2012
LJMU has recently welcomed 750 international students to the University as part of the 2012 Summer Semester programme.
Since its inception in 2002/03, the programme has seen thousands of students spend 14 weeks during the summer in Liverpool. The number of students attending this year, more than ever before, is testament to the popularity of this academic and cultural experience.
The Summer Semester programme provides students with the opportunity to come to LJMU to use their existing qualification as ‘advanced entry’ to an Honours degree. This is made possible through Recognition Arrangements with partner organisations overseas.
As well as providing international students with the opportunity to gain an LJMU qualification, the Summer Semester programme enables students to experience another culture and develop skills and networks that will improve their employment options once they have returned home. Their contribution to LJMU is greatly valued and their presence in Liverpool contributes to the local economy.
Maureen Evans, Summer Semester Operations Manager, said:
"The continued success of the programme is testament to the strength of the collaboration between LJMU and its partners who share the belief that international exposure is an invaluable educational experience. Year on year, we see a significant, positive change in the students in the time they are here, growing in confidence and benefiting from the academic, social and cultural experience that the programme affords them."
