Northern Ireland Careers Advisors Day 2012
01 June 2012
Student Recruitment & Widening Access recently welcomed to the University 50 careers teachers from schools and colleges across Northern Ireland. Visitors spent the day finding out more about LJMU and the city of Liverpool, from both staff and students.
Guests heard from LJMU students Stephen Stewart and Natalie McKenna, former pupils of Campbell College, Belfast and St. Patrick's Academy, Dungannon on their experience of moving across the Irish Sea, and the opportunities LJMU has offered to them. The Faculty Panel provided an insight into student recruitment policy and entry criteria, whilst Colette Ashbrook of the Graduate Development Centre delivered a valuable session on the 'World of Work' programme. The visit to Grand Central student accommodation proved very popular, as did the city of Liverpool bus tour.
One teacher commented: "An excellent welcome. Extremely well organised, enthusiastic, and professional staff. Everything combined to make a very good impression of the University."
Another said: "I thoroughly enjoyed this event. I had never been here before and now I feel confident in promoting LJMU and Liverpool to my students. This was an extremely informative event."
Sharon Roden, Schools & Colleges Account Manager added: "We are delighted by the success of this event, and strive to make sure that those teachers we work with in Northern Ireland continue to remain informed on every aspect of LJMU. Today's event is part of the Outreach Team's continued recruitment effort in Northern Ireland, where the aim to ensure that LJMU remains the most popular student destination for Northern Irish students, attracting more than any other English, Scottish or Welsh university.*
In February a very successful Northern Ireland Applicant Day was held in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, and in July we will welcome a group of Northern Irish Sixth Formers to LJMU for a Residential visit. This is in addition to the regular round of 150 student presentations delivered in Northern Ireland each year, directly reaching 15,000 sixth form pupils, plus maintaining a presence at Careers and H.E Fairs throughout the province."
If you would like further information relating to this event, or would like to be involved in future Outreach activities, then please contact the Outreach Team on email outreach@ljmu.ac.uk or call 0151 904 6385.
