Rising Star - Dr Matthew Tucker
29 June 2012
A leading industry magazine has named LJMU’s Dr Matthew Tucker as a 'rising star' in the Facilities Management sector.
The magazine, FM World, asked members of the BIFM (British Institute of Facilities Management) to nominate their 'rising stars' - up-and-coming figures in the industry who are producing outstanding work over a relatively short period.
Matthew, a Senior Lecturer in Facilities Management at the School of the Built Environment, was nominated by more people than anyone else in the process.
Matthew recently won the first ever RICS-Fulbright Scholar Award 2011-12, enabling him to undertake a unique research project on customer performance measurement in the US. He has published several papers in internationally recognised journals and completed his PhD developing a customer performance measurement system for FM.
He is a Certified Member of the BIFM, he sits on the BIFM North West Committee and is Co-Chair of the BIFM Merseyside Network. He has been instrumental in working with BIFM to develop the new Level 7 Qualification, which forms part of a new Masters programme launching in September at LJMU.
Matthew's background is in service improvement and he specialises in strategic FM research, with a particular focus on customer satisfaction, environmental sustainability, organisational behaviour, and workplace productivity.
Commenting on Mark’s nomination, Professor Mike Riley, Director of the School of the Built Environment, said: “The growth of Facilities Management as a strategically important profession is well recognised in the UK and internationally. The role that Matthew has played in developing the subject within the School of the Built Environment has resulted in LJMU becoming a known centre of excellence in FM education and research. His growing recognition as a leading academic in the field is well justified and this success in being identified as a rising star in the sector shows that he is highly respected within the industry as a whole and is seen as one of its future leaders."
