Seminar success for Maritime Studies students

Maritime Studies students' presentations to local industryLevel 2 Maritime Studies students took part in presentations to members of the local maritime industry in Liverpool at the Mersey Maritime offices at the Port of Liverpool Building at the Pier Head.

This is the third consecutive year that Maritime Students from the School of Engineering have undertaken industry projects in order to gain valuable experience of working in an industry setting.

This year the companies were: Hapag Lloyd, Atlantic Container Line, Mersey Ferries and Bibby Line Limited. Students worked in groups for 4 - 6 weeks, producing a written report as well as group presentation at a combined seminar.

Presentations focussed on: ‘Opportunities for Housing Coastels’, ‘Induction Processes’, ‘Opportunities for Ferries’ and ‘Customer Activity’.

This year has been the most successful seminar to date. All the companies involved were extremely happy with the outcome, and commented that they will be taking part next year.

On a separate note, Bibby Line Limited have agreed to sponsor a prize for the best Level 2 Maritime Student, awarded to the student gaining the highest mark in their Level 2 studies. The prize of £100 will be presented in each of 3 years in September starting from 2007. The LJMU Development and Alumni Relations Office is managing the sponsorship.
