New LJMU Life Sciences building to be named "Tom Reilly building"
The Vice-Chancellor is pleased to announce that, after sensitive private consultation in the University, his recommendation to the Board of Governors on the naming of the new building on the Byrom Street campus was unanimously accepted.
The new building, which will house the Schools of Psychology and Sport and Exercise Sciences, will be named the "Tom Reilly building". The Vice-Chancellor is delighted to report that Professor Reilly has agreed to this proposal.
Tom, a pioneer in the academic study of sport science, has enjoyed an illustrious career in the field. He was a founder member of the European College of Sport Science, is currently President of the World Commission of Science and Sports and has authored or co-authored 30 books on the subject.
As Director of the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences at LJMU, Tom has built a research team of international calibre which has gained the University a 5* research rating.
