Dare to be Digital

LJMU is holding an evening at FACT for students who are interested in taking part in the highly regarded video game competition Dare to be Digital.

Dare to be Digital logoDare to be Digital is the UK's premier video games competition for students who love to play games and want to design their own video game.

To enter, students need to be in teams of five, consisting of a range of artists, programmers and audio specialists. To help students find team members, LJMU is hosting an introductory evening at FACT bar, 6pm on Tuesday 24 February. All LJMU students are welcome to attend and a limited number of free drinks will be available.

Once students get into the teams of five, they can apply to take part in Dare to be Digital. If selected they then develop a prototype videogame over ten weeks, receiving daily support and weekly training sessions from industry experts.

At the end of the ten weeks, the prototypes are displayed at a special talent showcasing event in Edinburgh, Dare ProtoPlay, alongside the Edinburgh Interactive Festival in August. The general public as well as industry experts get to play and vote for the games. Prizes are then awarded to the winning teams at a special awards ceremony and later in the year the winning teams attend the BAFTA Video Games Awards to compete for the coveted "Ones to Watch Award."

This year, Dare to be Digital has also introduced a new element to allow individuals to submit game ideas for the teams to develop.
