New routes into teaching

19 February 2009

LJMU has recently announced details of its range of Government-funded Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses aimed at opening up teaching to more graduates than ever.

These courses are designed to enhance potential trainee teachers’ subject knowledge in the area they wish to teach; LJMU offers courses ranging from 2 weeks for those trainees needing their knowledge refreshed, to those lasting 1 year for those trainees wishing to change their subject area altogether. All the courses offered are in National Secondary Shortage Subjects, and are designed to allow progression onto PGCE/GTP courses in those subjects.

The courses offered are free of charge*, and those lasting more than two weeks also include a substantial amount of funding* (up to £7,200* tax free on the 1 year routes).

For more information on any of the courses, please visit www.ljmu.ac.uk/teaching/enhancement, call us on 0151 231 5340, or join us at the Train to Teach North event at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 March 2009.

Details of all our teacher training provision can be found at www.ljmu.ac.uk/teaching - including the Liverpool Student Associates Scheme for those students looking to secure three weeks of high quality, paid* school experience, plus information about the GCSE Equivalence Tests in English language, maths and science offered by LJMU.

* All bursaries, training salaries and funding is subject to TDA Eligibility Criteria which can be discussed with our recruitment advisors. LJMU also offers non-Government funded courses.
