Listen in and have your say on democracy on Radio Merseyside - Thursday 19 March, 12- 2pm, with Roger Phillips.

Do you usually vote in local, national and European elections? Why / why not? Is your local councillor helpful / invisible except at election time? Liverpool has one BME councillor. What does ‘democracy’ mean to you? To the people of Liverpool?

LJMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Brown will introduce the work of the Liverpool Democracy Commission to a Radio Merseyside audience on 19 March. Jean Monnet, Professor Michael Mannin (Principal Lecturer in Social Science) and Richard Meegan (European Institute for Urban Affairs) will start the discussion about ‘democracy’. An invited audience from Liverpool City Council, Liverpool business, voluntary organisations, arts, culture and education will respond to callers’ questions.

From early January, Liverpool electorate’s views about aspects of ‘democracy’ have been gathered by Social Science’s Base Line Research and Survey – a multidisciplinary team from: Geography (Dr Giles Barrett, Steve Duggan, Professor David McEvoy, Chris McGoldrick, Dr Sara Parker); Politics (Professor Mannin and Charlotte Bretherton); Sociology (Vicky Canning); and from the Business School (Martin Hudson).

This is your opportunity to listen and phone in!
