Lord Mayor visits LSU

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, a former LJMU student himself, visited Liverpool Students’ Union last week to see how they represent and support their student members and get involved with issues affecting the local community.

The Lord Mayor with Danielle Jeffreys, Vice President Activities and ParticipationThe LSU Sabbatical Officers talked about various projects they are currently involved in, including campaigns on student welfare and personal safety, as well as the Student Community Representatives scheme - a ground-breaking community scheme which aims to bring together student and non-student residents to improve their neighbourhoods.

The Lord Mayor was also given a tour of the Student Union facilities, and was particularly impressed with the Advice Centre, which has succeeded in reclaiming thousand of pounds for students who have been incorrectly charged by landlords.

It was noted by the Lord Mayor that the LSU Cafe and Bars had undergone radical changes for the better since he was a student. This came as no surprise to the Sabbatical Officers – the LSU was voted the 'Best Independent Premises' at Liverpool City Council's ‘Best Bar None’ awards last year.
