Student’s success at national storytelling competition

LJMU Drama and Imaginative Writing graduate, Ruth Boycott-Garnett, is celebrating after her success at the Young Storyteller of the Year competition, which took place recently at the Library Theatre in Birmingham.

Ruth was competing against 25 other young storytellers and received her highly-commended award from the panel after performing her story to an audience of over 150 people. Her story was based upon a humorous traditional Nottinghamshire tale about a woman who mistook the reflection of the moon in a pond for a wheel of cheese!

As part of her prize, she has obtained performance slots at national storytelling festivals across the UK this summer.

Ruth graduated last summer and after graduation was awarded a place on LJMU’s Enterprise Fellowship Programme, which supports students and recent graduates to start their own business, be self-employed or work on a freelance basis. Ruthie has been developing her portfolio of work over the past year and her recent success at the national competition is a great opportunity to increase her profile as one of the UK’s up and coming storytellers.
