LJMU lecturer contributes to groundbreaking encyclopaedia.
Dr Qing Cao, Senior Lecturer in Chinese Studies in the Liverpool Business School, is one of the expert contributors to the groundbreaking 'Encyclopaedia of China' - due to be published in April 2009.
Dr Cao specialises in intercultural relations and was invited to write an article entitled ‘Western Images of China’ for the Encyclopaedia.
“China today defies any simplistic characterisation,” Dr Cao explained in the article, “though some may still feel confident that China can be comfortably interpreted within existing Western frames.”
The five-volume Encyclopedia of China is designed for students, teachers, business people, and government officials who want to be able to learn more about China. The highly illustrated book contains articles written by scholars around the world. It is the first large-scale, multi-authored encyclopedia about China to be published outside of China itself.
While the Encyclopedia includes articles about China’s earliest history, its focus has been the events, concepts, and people who matter today. Articles cover social and environmental issues, new communications and media, and economic topics
A free one-year subscription to the digital edition comes with every print set. The online edition has the advantage of colour photos, as well as being fully searchable and printable.
