Turkish police exchange ideas

Chief Officers from Erzincan Police in Turkey visited the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences recently as part of an exchange programme with Merseyside Police.

The programme was set up to allow the exchange of ideas with Turkey and the current operations and research developments in UK policing.

At the end of their two-week visit, the officers reserved special praise for the session held at the GISLab where Dr Michael Francis, Hulya Francis and Dr Peter Kinloch provided detailed presentations of the police operational research carried out by the lab which is employed in several countries worldwide.

By the end of the session the Turkish officers had gained a high level of appreciation for the benefits that geographical information systems and the GISLab can bring to emergency services, and were inquisitive about how it can be applied to their own policing issues.

Chief Constable for Merseyside Police Bernard Hogan-Howe commented in his closing speech to the Turkish officers: “I am delighted that Liverpool John Moores University and Merseyside Police maintain their good relations and constantly look towards improving the service offered to the public.”

“On several occasions over the last few years I have had the privilege of experiencing at first-hand the research that has been conducted and will continue to be happy to apply new ideas as we look to constantly develop.  Long may our association with Liverpool John Moores continue.”
