International Day Against Homophobia

14 May 2009

May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO).

Each year campaign activities and initiatives take place on or around May 17 to combat prejudices and wrong attitudes against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. This year’s theme is ‘End Transphobia: Respect Gender Identity’ - IDAHO presents an excellent opportunity for organisations and individuals to reflect on their corporate and personal attitudes towards LGBT people.

Organisations across around Liverpool are joining in to celebrate the day. Liverpool Town Hall for example will be opening its doors from 2pm to allow people the opportunity to contribute their ideas to the Liverpool Pride festival.

At LJMU we promote an environment where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and where any form of discrimination is not tolerated. We have re-launched the LGBT staff support network, a group which serves as a social network, contributes to policy development and raises awareness of LGBT activities.

To register your interest contact either Meriel Box (M.Box@ljmu.ac.uk) or Moni Akinsanya (M.M.Akinsanya@ljmu.ac.uk).
