LJMU cleaner scoops Adult Learners’ Week award.

Elaine Lyons, who recently completed her Diploma in HE in Nursing (Adult) at LJMU, won an ‘Award for Individuals’ in this year’s national Adult Learners’ Week. Elaine previously worked as a cleaner at the University and discovered a love for learning after attending study days, which prompted her to pursue a life’s dream of becoming a nurse.

Adult Learners’ Week, co-ordinated by the National Institute for Continuing and Adult Education, is the UK’s largest and longest running festival of learning. It encourages adults to take part in learning activities and events across England as well as celebrating the outstanding achievements of inspirational learners through the Adult Learners’ Week Awards.

On Merseyside, the week is co-ordinated by Merseyside Adult Learners’ Forum which brings together voluntary and community agencies, FE colleges and universities. Sarah Wilkinson of the Forum commented: “We hope the award winners’ stories will inspire people to think about their own learning.”
