Golden boys

LJMU Sport Scholarship athletes, Jonny Mellor and Matthew Owens, have brought back two gold medals from the British Universities & Colleges Sport national athletics event held in Bedford recently.
Johnny Mellor picked up the 5000m gold in 14:18:01, comfortably holding off the challenge of fellow LJMU athlete David Forrester. Matthew Owens also came away with gold in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 2.05m
Sport Scholarship Manager David McDermott commented: “It was a great competition and both Jonny and Matt did exceptionally well against tough competition. All their hard work is paying off and let’s hope they have a great season this summer.”
