Print Strategy update

12 June 2009

Now that the final main phase of changing our local printers and copiers to MFDs (multifunctional devices) has been completed, LJMU can begin to take full advantage of the PRINT infrastructure created of local devices and a fully upgraded Print Room.

IKON, LJMU’s PRINT partner, is providing us with further document management services.  A Print Broker service is now operating through the Print Room.  This means that all staff should be sending work that previously would have gone to external printers through to the Print Room.  IKON will arrange either that the work is completed within the Print Room or goes to its approved list of printing firms.

All printing jobs should therefore be going through the Print Room rather than direct to external printing firms.  Staff are encouraged to consider using the Print Room extensively for even small printing and copying jobs, thereby saving their time.  Recent satisfaction surveys rate the Print Room’s performance as excellent.  Please contact Jerry Crayden, Print and Post Manager, and Peter Kenny, the Print Room Manager, about the service.

Starting this month, IKON has supplied a software package called Comms Builder that enables easy design to corporate standards of simple marketing materials e.g. posters, leaflets and letterheads.  Geoff Scott, LJMU’s Corporate Brand and Production Manager, is piloting the use of the package which has the potential to save time in the design and then the production of printed copy.

These two developments keep LJMU at the forefront of ensuring the most up to date and effective PRINT environment, but to gain maximum efficiencies it is important that all staff take full advantage of the services now on offer.
