These aims are categorised as follows:
- Financial: aims relating to planned financial outcomes.
- Stakeholder: aims relating to changing and developing stakeholder needs and perceptions, be they staff, students, employers or other clients.
- Internal Process: aims relating to the development and improvement of internal processes, in support of the stakeholder and financial aims.

Strategic Initiatives are a series of short, mediumand long-term projects that support the achievement of one or more strategic aims. In essence they are the building blocks of the strategic plan.
