The Open LivIn Project

Open LivIn - Aims and Objectives

Open LivIn is a JISC-funded project to develop a social network platform - a city region-wide innovation & intellectual property (IP) marketplace for maximising the exploitation of early-stage ideas.

By creating an innovation ecosystem that is agnostic as to where innovative ideas, business development capability and funding might come from, we expect to increase the possibility of novel forms of university business and community engagement. New approaches to consultancy support and other models for working with business are expected to arise from the marketplace.

Open LivIn seeks to address three well known ‘pinch-points’ in the commercial technology transfer process by deploying tools that will that help to accelerate IP exploitation within a social media-based innovation platform.

The marketplace will use new crowd-sourcing techniques for project selection. It will also 'match-make' ideas with people who have the capability to drive forward businesses and technologies, and assist these ideas to access and draw-down funding.
