Borrowing Material from the Library

Borrowing

You will need your university card to borrow items from our libraries. A charge of £10 is made for replacement cards, unless you can provide a valid crime number.

You can use one of the self-service machines for borrowing your items. You can also use the self-service machines to:

  • renew your items (provided they are not overdue)
  • pay your library fines

The self-service machines are situated around each library. If you experience any difficulty using the machines please seek advice from staff at the Hub.

LJMU students registered on distance learning programmes within the UK are entitled to use our Postal Loans service.

Please remember that you are responsible for the safe return of all items lent to you. If you lose something that you have borrowed from us or if it is stolen, please let us know as soon as possible. We will then inform you of the replacement cost. We make an administrative charge towards the cost of the work involved in replacing a lost item. If an item is damaged while it is on loan to you, we reserve the right to levy a charge.

Please note that you will not be able to borrow if you have overdue items. You will not be able to borrow, renew or place reservations if you owe more than £10.00 in library fines or other charges.

Returning Items

Please use the self-service machines located on the ground floor of each library to return items. Fines are charged for all items returned late.
