Parents of students at LJMU

As the parent of a student it is only natural that you are interested in their studies.  It is an exciting time for you as well as for them and you will probably want to know how they are getting on and what they are doing.

Parents are sometimes worried that their son or daughter is not attending very often but university is not like school, and students are not expected to attend every day of every week. Instead they are encouraged to develop independent learning as part of their course.

We want students to enjoy and benefit from their time at university and we employ a range of support staff from personal tutors on their programmes, to senior student wardens who live in student accommodation.

If you are worried that your son or daughter is not settling in, is homesick or has some other worries or concerns then please feel free to contact us and we can advise you accordingly.

However, once someone reaches the age of 18 they are legally an adult and therefore have a right to privacy and Data Protection just the same as anyone else. This means that we are restricted by legislation in what we can discuss with you.

If your son or daughter is having problems, you should encourage them to seek help themselves.  However, we recognise that this is not always practical and we are happy to discuss issues with you but are limited with what we can tell you.

Staff can be contacted on telephone number 0151 904 6055 or email studentadvice@ljmu.ac.uk
